This fanzine brings together a series of twelve images by Abi Shehu, found on the walls of Spaç Prison, one of the most notorious prisons in Albania, which operated from 1968 to 1990. Drawn by prisoners during the final years of the prison’s existence, these images serve not only as archaeological relics but also as expressions of the prisoners’ imagination and desires for freedom. They depict familiar clichés of television, football, eroticism, and consumerism, occasionally interrupted by scenes of indirect violence.
The prisoners’ vision of freedom coincides with the image of Albania that emerged after the fall of the regime, already shaped by the influence of Western television and its cultural imagery.
